The rest of the adventure

Now I am at the Hilton in Copenhagen and finally have a solid internet connection -- previous ones worked for things here and there, but liked to disconnect and ask for passwords to the wireless net all the time.

First here are some pictures from my last day in Florence.  Nothing spectacular, but Florence really is a pretty place.

Saturday's trip into Switzerland was set to sunny skies, so there are lots of pictures from Milan to Basel. The next day the skies opened up and rained, so taking pictures was impossible -- not enough light to take pictures from a moving train.  I went from Basel to Koln (Cologne), then caught a French Thalys train to the Belgian town of Liege, and then finally a regional (small) train to Maastricht.  Arrived in Maastricht to sunnier weather and so I was able to get out and take some pictures around town.  The next day (Monday) I had meetings with the program people at the Center for European Studies and the University of Maastricht and learned about how UConn students could study there.  Then a few more pictures.

It was then that I learned that the German train engineers were not happy and were starting to strike in various parts of the country.  I did not have to be in Copenhagen until Thursday, and I was happy I had some extra time.  I figured to get as far as I could and then spend the night in Germany if I had to.

I missed connections, and there were delays, but I was able to get all the way to Copenhagen, arriving at 11pm.  The best part of the trip was when they announced that the train was going to drive onto the ferry to go across to Denmark.  Train on boat?  Well it was a big boat, and it worked out just fine.  Here are some picures if you don't believe me.

Wednesday was the 4th of July and the first day in a while that it did not rain in Copenhagen, so I was able to walk all over the city taking pictures.  Thursday and Friday was more or less solid rain, so I was not able to take other pictures.

My flight from Copenhagen is at 5:55am tomorrow, but the hotel is right at the airport and I can walk to the gate.  If air travel is kind, I will be back in Hartford just after 1pm, and very happy to see everyone at home.
